Wolf Administration Tours Innovative IT Program at Cumberland Valley High School, Highlights STEM Job Training Initiatives

New program will prepare students for in-demand Information Technology jobs

Mechanicsburg, PA – Department of Labor & Industry (L&I) Deputy Secretary for Workforce Development Eileen Cipriani today visited the open house and kickoff event at Cumberland Valley High School for the first-ever curricular partnership program between NuPaths, cofounded by Harrisburg University, and the Cumberland Valley School District. Cipriani toured the new program’s classroom, spoke with students and teachers involved in the program, and highlighted Governor Tom Wolf’s PAsmart initiative that is investing in science, technology, education and math (STEM) training and career and technical education in Pennsylvania.
“One of Governor Wolf’s top priorities is bolstering the STEM workforce in the commonwealth,” Cipriani said. “The partnership between Cumberland Valley School District and Harrisburg University is encouraging students to pursue in-demand, STEM-related occupations in information technology fields, and provides them with an opportunity to explore career options in those fields.”
The Cumberland Valley School District and NuPaths curricular partnership program focuses on the Technical and Security Assistant occupation. This partnership program will prepare high school students from Cumberland Valley for entry level careers in IT Support and Cyber Security and allows students the opportunity to earn up to six industry certifications while simultaneously earning high school elective credits and college credits.
